Proper Treatment For Chronic Coughs Is Necessary
Coughing is mostly accompanied with flu and common cold, and causes acute pain and dryness in throat. It is important to seek proper medical help and get it treated appropriately.
Coughs occur because the defence mechanisms in the body propel them so as to clear the air passage in the throat which provides air to the lungs. They not only happen because of physical discomfort and ailments but also can be triggered because of psychological problems. Cough due to physical problems happens generally when external agents and pollutants like smoke, pollen, dust etc invade the body or if you are down with some serious disease. The latter is a habit of coughing or sneezing in an individual without any concrete physical reason, and it is called \’habitual coughing\’ or Streruphilia in medical terminology.
Cough can often be acute or chronic, depending on its typical nature and on the basis of the period for which it lasts and its intensity. Acute coughs which continue for not more than 3 weeks at a stretch can be triggered because of diseases that are either infectious or non-infectious. Complications such as pneumonia and sinusitis result in acute coughs while chronic diseases like asthma trigger chronic coughing problems.
In order to make sure that you get proper treatment for your cough problem, you have to visit a doctor to identify the nature and root cause of the complication. Depending on the identified root cause, specialists can prescribe many types of medications like antibiotics, antihistamines, or other cough suppressants. However, chronic coughing might require the patient to resort to long duration therapies, which can go on for months at a stretch until the problem is cured.
Like with all physical ailments, it is always better to take precautions to prevent cough rather than having to bear the pain and undergo prolonged treatment later. A healthy lifestyle can keep you away from cough related problems and for that you must not smoke and intake a good, balanced diet.
